Students
Looking for paid work experience in an innovative and enterprising environment? Discover how TSIS can help you develop your skills while making a lasting contribution to the third sector.
What can I do next?
TSIS is only available to students currently studying at a Scottish university at Higher Education level. If you have already graduated are there any other schemes that can help you?
We've already seen many students successfully complete an internship. If you have been an intern what can you do next if you are going back to university or starting to look for permanent employment?
TSIS receives a high volume of applications and, unfortunately, not every student who applies can be successful. How can you improve your application and learn from your experience?
Have you applied to TSIS before?
Already graduated?
In Scotland there are several schemes available that can help you to find temporary or permanent employment:
Talent Scotland is a national graduate placement programme which offers an opportunity to work on a short-term project with an established business or social enterprise.
Adopt an Intern offers paid internships for recent graduates and postgraduates.
Community Jobs Fund is a new employment initiative between SCVO and the Scottish Social Enterprise Coalition (SSEC) to deliver 2,000 paid work opportunities to young unemployed individuals across Scotland within the third sector.
Completed a TSIS Internship?
Students who have completed their internship and are now seeking employment may be eligible for the schemes described above. Alternatively, you can take advantage of support and advice from your university's Careers Service for up to two years after graduating. They can help you to make the most of your TSIS experience through updating your CV, advising you on how to approach writing applications, and helping you to prepare for interviews.
If you are going back to university, you may be able to use your TSIS experience as the basis for a dissertation or other coursework.
If you attended our "Communicate with Confidence" workshop, then you can reflect on the skills and techniques you learned to help you in your studies or in applying for a job..
In order to give as many students as possible the opportunity to experience a TSIS internship, if you have already completed an internship, then unfortuntely you are not eligible to apply again.
The TSIS team would be very interested to hear what impact your internship has had on your studies or your preparation for future employment. We will be contacting you six months after your internship to find out what you did next. If you would like to share anything with us before or after that please contact us.
Have you applied to TSIS before?
If you were unsuccessful at a previous interview, you will have received individual feedback view with advice on how you can improve. We recommend talking to your Careers Adviser about this feedback and finding out whether it is possible to participate in a mock interview through your Careers Service.
If you did not get to the interview stage, we recommend looking at our Feedback section. You can also talk to your Careers Adviser about your application and how you may be able to improve it for another position (you can apply for as many internships as you like).
You can also check out our resources pages for tips on interviews and applications.
